Procedure
Ultra Rapid Opioid Detoxification
Ultra Rapid Opioid Detoxification (UROD) is a medically supervised procedure designed to accelerate the opioid withdrawal process. The procedure is performed under anesthesia or deep sedation, allowing the patient to pass through the most intense phase of withdrawal while unconscious, significantly reducing the discomfort typically associated with opioid detoxification.
During the procedure, opioid antagonist medications are administered to rapidly displace opioids from the brain's receptors. Because the patient is under anesthesia, they do not experience the severe withdrawal symptoms that would normally occur during this process. The procedure typically takes several hours, and patients are closely monitored throughout.
UROD can compress what would normally be days or weeks of withdrawal into a matter of hours. Following the procedure, patients are transitioned to ongoing naltrexone therapy, either as an implant or monthly injection, to maintain opioid blockade and support continued recovery.
This procedure is particularly beneficial for patients who have been unable to complete traditional detoxification programs due to the severity of withdrawal symptoms. At Spinal Interventions, our board-certified physicians perform UROD with the highest standards of patient safety, using continuous monitoring and anesthesia expertise to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
